A Frugal Politician?

Gary Locke
The most frugal of them all?

“A billion here, a billion there—sooner or later it adds up to real money.”
— Senator Everett Dirksen

Is it possible that we are witnessing a frugal politician? Even though he is now a diplomat, Gary Locke was once a politician – the Governor of Washington. He has made waves in China, where he is now the ambassador, for ordering his own coffee, carrying his own backpack, getting regular cars for transportation, and staying in (gasp!) four star hotels.

Should the rest of Washington D.C. take notice? Was he this frugal as the Governor of Washington or the Secretary of Commerce?
